The requirements for the management of projects are constantly evolving. Accordingly, the requirements for project managers are also evolving. PMI now reflects this fact in the new, further developed PMI Talent Triangle.

Since its introduction on December 1, 2015, the Talent Triangle with its three pillars Technical Project Management, Leadership, and Strategy and Business Management has defined PMI's recertification program (CCR) for almost 7 years, but also the character of events or other activities with which Professional Development Units (PDU) could be acquired.

The Talent Triangle has been further developed to reflect the changing requirements for managing projects, even if some of it is just old wine in new bottles.

The three pillars are now Ways of Working, Power Skills und Business Acumen.

  • Ways of Working: Whether plandetermined, agile or hybrid, whether earned value management, design thinking or other methods, approaches and practices, for the management of projects it will be important in the future to master several ways of working in order to use them flexibly as needed.

  • Power Skills: Collaborative leadership, innovative thinking, good communication, purpose orientation, and empathy, teams whose members:inside have these skills are more likely to influence multiple stakeholders, which is a critical component for designing and executing projects and change.

  • Business Acumen: In order to make good decisions on projects, it is important to have business acumen as well as the functional or domain-specific knowledge to understand the macro and micro influences of the particular organization or industry. Good project leaders should be able to cultivate effective decision making and understand how their projects fit into the bigger picture of a broader organizational strategy and global trends.

So what does this mean exactly?
As seen in the published video, PDUs submitted will still be recognized as submitted. (Here you'll find the video)

Existing PDUs will transfer as follows:

  • PDUs in the Technical Project Management category will become "Ways of Working."
  • PDUs in the Strategic and Business Management category will become "Business Acumen."
  • PDUs in the Leadership category will become "Power Skills."PDUs der Technical Project Management Kategorie werden zu “Ways of Working.”

Changes will then be made to the Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS), Course Catalog, and the Authorized Training Partner Education Provider Portal later this year.
