Online Event LG Darmstadt: Psychological safety and importance of human factors in leadership and team success
Gareth Lock's upcoming session will focus on the critical role of psychological safety and human factors in leadership and team success. By creating an environment of trust and openness, teams can significantly enhance their dynamics, leading to improved decision-making, reduced errors, and exceptional performance. Gareth emphasizes that safety and high performance are deeply interconnected, with human behavior and team cohesion being essential components for success.
Drawing from his extensive background in military aircrew roles, systems engineering, and diving safety, Gareth has a unique perspective on the importance of human factors in high-risk domains. His journey began with a 25-year career in the Royal Air Force, where he honed his expertise in teamwork and decision-making under pressure. His passion for diving, ignited in 1999, revealed a critical gap in the industry: while technical skills were emphasized, the significance of human behavior and team cohesion was often overlooked.
This realization drove Gareth to pioneer the integration of human factors training in the diving community, advocating for a holistic approach to safety and performance. His innovative methods and programs are designed to be highly experiential, reflective, and sometimes deliberately uncomfortable, aimed at pushing teams to unlock their full potential. Gareth's work is characterized by his ability to provocatively identify and join hidden dots, transforming theoretical concepts into practical applications.
Beyond the diving world, Gareth has extended his influence to other high-risk sectors globally. His commitment to creating ripples of change and his belief that “safety comes as a by-product of high performance” underpin his training philosophy. Through his organizations, Human in the System and The Human Diver, Gareth has made significant contributions to enhancing team performance and safety.
Living in Wiltshire, UK, with his family, Gareth continues to travel the world, sharing his insights and expertise at conferences and training sessions. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the fields of diving, extreme sports, and high-performance team training.
