PVM 2023

The Gesellschaft für Informatik organizes in cooperation with the PMI Germany Chapter the congress PVM2023.

Our world is facing a number of global challenges. These include the ever-accelerating climate change and the resulting need to accelerate the energy transition. But the increase in armed conflicts and increasing inequality within and between societies are also challenging. In addition, the increasingly important balance between economic and social needs is causing fundamental changes, especially in industrialized nations.

On the path towards sustainability, IT can provide both positive and negative impulses. On the one hand, there is the enormous energy consumption of streaming services for private media consumption, for the operation of cloud solutions or the effort involved in online logistics. On the other hand, IT generates the potential to realize massive savings through intelligent concepts, for example in the smart home area or through monitoring and control applications in networked energy systems.

Customers, investors, supervisory authorities and employees are therefore increasingly demanding that companies not only use their capital, but also do so in an ecologically and socially responsible manner and have the necessary governance framework in place. More and more investors are incorporating ESG (environmental, social and governance) elements into their investment decisions. This covers ecological, social and organizational management aspects.

On the other hand, attention to environmental compatibility and social justice results in a business effort that leads to higher costs. However, the resulting advantages of sustainable projects cannot usually be realized in the short term and are therefore difficult to integrate into a “quarterly-oriented” way of thinking.

Projects are the central means of creating change in and within organizations. These must deal with aspects of sustainability in project selection, project implementation and the definition and assessment of project results.

The central topic of PVM 2023 will be the sustainability in IT - project management and generally in IT - projects.
