Digital literacy in project management

Digital literacy in project management
Together with the Dresden regional group of GPM e.V., the PMI Local Group Dresden invites you to the topic

Digital literacy in project management

The use of digital technologies has a disruptive effect on the value creation of companies and the entire economic system. New business models are emerging, old ones are being transformed. Work and business processes change accordingly and lead to new skills requirements. Therefore, in the discourse of digital transformation, the promotion of digital skills is propagated as an ability to act. Although there are some general attempts to model them, there is no clear understanding of digital skills in the context of project management.

For this reason, a model of digital skills for this domain is being developed in the current doctoral thesis. Using a systematic literature review, the dimensions of a heuristic competency structure model were derived. In order to connect general digital literacy with the requirements for action in project management, the performative level of competencies in project management was first determined using focus group interviews in order to be able to subsequently draw conclusions about activities, requirements and, last but not least, competencies. The result is a comprehensive target profile with typical action situations and requirements from project management and the digital skills required to adequately meet the challenges.

The results will be presented during the event and are welcome to be critically questioned and supplemented by the participants.

Speaker:

After completing a bachelor's degree in business informatics at the DHBW Mosbach, in addition to her professional work as a consultant and project manager for SAP projects, Jessica Nagel completed the master's degree in "Business Informatics & IT Management" at the AKAD University Stuttgart. As part of the ERP Future 2019 in Vienna, she received the Diploma Thesis Award (Platinum, 1st place) from the SERES Unit for her master's thesis. In 2020, she also completed the “Digital Transformation Manager” university certificate from AKAD University on a part-time basis and in November 2021 she completed the postgraduate program of the Leadership-Kultur-Stiftung for systematic, part-time preparation for her doctorate. She is writing her dissertation on the topic of “Digital Literacy in Project Management” as an external doctoral candidate part-time at the Faculty of Business Education at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg.

Jessica Nagel works as a team leader in the area of consulting and project management at XEPTUM Consulting AG in Neckarsulm and therefore knows the challenges of digital transformation not only from a scientific but, above all, from a professional and practical perspective.
