In October 2023, PMI announced its intention to acquire the PMO Global Alliance (PMOGA – https://www.pmoga.world/) the world's largest global community of PMOs and PMO experts) as part of its continued strategic focus. The acquisition has now been completed. PMOGA is now part of the PMI Global Community.

The acquisition marks a significant milestone on PMI's journey to support project professionals not only in a temporary phase of their professional life, but throughout their entire career.

PMOGA was founded in 2017 and is a global community with over 17,000 members in more than 125 countries. PMOGA has developed two professional certifications, the PMO Certified Practitioner (PMO-CP) and the PMO Certified Consultant (PMO-CC). Members have access to an extensive catalog of learning opportunities and events. The organization also hosts its own awards program, the PMO Global Awards, to recognize the most successful PMOs and PMO professionals.

PMI and PMOGA share a passion for empowering project management professionals and organizations to create more value and deliver projects successfully. With this acquisition, PMI strengthens its ability to support and develop project management office professionals. The merger enables PMI to pool resources, knowledge and talent to create new and exciting opportunities for its members, as well as increase relevance and influence in organizations.

The most effective PMOs not only focus on implementing standard processes and procedures, but also influence strategy and play a central role in creating a value-driven culture. A study of the most mature PMOs by PMI and PwC found that 73% of them even have a board-level role, compared to 47% of organizations overall. With this increased opportunity to get a seat at the decision-making table, current and aspiring PMO professionals need resources to hone their skills, learn from their peers and stay current.
